Es gibt Boxen die auf diversen CDs die Künstler eines Labels vorstellen. Meist sind es, im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes, nur billige Compis. Oft findet man aber auch Perlen darunter. Das Wort “billig” muss in “preiswert” geändert werden. Preiswert ist auch “A Complete Introduction To Tamla Motown”. Für mein Exemplar legte ich einen 5 Euro Schein auf die Theke. 4 CDs in einem Buch, dass die Geschichte von Tamla Motown beschreibt. Viele hochglanz Fotos, Cover und Plakate sind zu finden. Dazu gibt es die passenden Stories und auch ein oder zwei Sätze zu jedem einzelnen Song.
Die CDs wurden zu je einem Thema zusammengestellt. CD 1 ist betitelt mit Milestones And Influences. Die Songs kennt man alle und hat sie auch schon etliche Male gehört. Jeder war irgendwann ein Hit. Zum Einstieg ist das nicht schlecht und es macht Spaß diese Bekannte wieder zu hören.
Auch zu den Hits gehören die Songs auf der CD 2, nur diesmal sind es Chartbuster die es in Britannien in die Hitparade geschafft haben. “British Motown Chartbusters” ist folgerichtig der Titel.
Noch spannender wird die CD 3. “Live In London And Paris”. Diana Ross & The Supremes, die Temptations und Steve Wonder geben sich die Ehre im Londoner “Talk Of The Town”. In Paris gab es eine Package Tour unter dem Motto “Motortown Revue”.
Disc 4 ist den “Killer Bs” gewidmet und es sind wirklich erstklassige Songs von den B-Seiten der Hits.
Die ganze Story anzuhören dauert einen längeren Abend. Die Zeit sollte man sich nehmen und dazu die Begleittexte lesen. Eine hervorragende Einführung in die Geschichte des Labels.
