Immediate wurde 1965 von Andrew Loog-Oldham und Tony Calder gegründet. Ihr Motto lautete: “Happy to Be a Part of the Industry of Human Happiness”. Loog-Oldham verdiente sein Geld u.a. in seiner Tätigkeit als Manager und Produzent der Rolling Stones. Immediate gründete er um „neuen“ Musikern eine Chance zu geben ihre Platten zu verkaufen. Meiner Meinung nach war er Geschäftsmann und hatte ein gutes Gespür für Talente.
Relativ früh schloss er Verträge mit US-Plattenfirmen über den Vertrieb seiner Platten in GB als auch in den USA ab. Die McCoys gehörten zu diesen Bands und bescherten Immediate gleich einen Nummer 5 Hit in den britischen Charts.
Immediate verpflichtete eine Reihe von Musikern mit heute großen Namen, das Ergebnis waren zahlreiche Hits. Diese Hits sind auf 6 CD’s in der Box versammelt. Das Begleitheft gibt eine kurze Information zu den Songs und beschreibt ausführlich die Geschichte von Immediate Records und die Verhältnisse der Musiker zu dem Label.
Nach 28 Alben und 82 Single kam 1970 das Ende. Im Nachhinein wurde jahrelang über die Rechte der Songs gestritten, Musiker erhielten keine Tantiemen und Loog-Oldham verlor am Ende einen Prozess mit dem amerikanischen Ableger von Immediate Records.
Es gibt eine Reihe von Boxen mit dem Thema Immediate. Mittlerweile scheinen einige von ihnen Sammlerwert zu besitzen und das schlägt sich auf den Preis nieder. Wer einige dieser Boxen besitzt, muss Überschneidungen der Songs in Kauf nehmen. Es gibt auch Songs die nie auf offiziellen Alben der Musiker erschienen und nur auf Samplern erschienen sind.
