On The Scene With DERAM – Originals From The DERAM & DECCA Archives

Das Label DERAM war ein Sub Label von DECCA Großbritannien. Mit dem amerikanischen Label von Decca hat das nichts zu tun. Es geht hier um Bands von der Insel. Gegründet 1966 und 1979 geschlossen für den Vertrieb neuer Alben. Man kramte ab 1979 nur noch in den Archiven und beschränkte sich auf Wiederveröffentlichungen und auf die Zusammenstellung diverser Sampler.

Laut Wikipedia experimentierte DECCA mit verschiedenen Aufnahmetechniken und hier besonders mit den Möglichkeiten der Mehrkanaltechnik. Stereo war im Kommen und bot hier neue Möglichkeiten. Es entstand der “Decca Panoramic Sound”. Um diesen Sound besser zu vermarkten wurde DERAM gegründet. DERAM sollte diesen Sound für Aufnahmen aus den Bereichen Pop und Rock verwenden. Später konzentrierte sich DERAM immer mehr auf die progressiven Bands aus Jazz, Rock und Pop die sich vom Üblichen abhoben.
198 und 1999 gruben sich fleißige Mitarbeiter von DECCA durch die Archive von DERAM und stellte neun Sampler mit unterschiedliche Themen zusammen. Man nannte all diese CDs „The … Scene“. Bei den Zusammenstellungen gibt es zwar Überschneidungen was die Musiker betreffen, aber die Songs passen in das jeweilige Thema. Die Auswahl ist sehr gut gelungen und wer sich für die Musik der 1960er Jahre, auch abseits des Mainstreams, interessiert, könnte sich näher mit den Samplern beschäftigen. Manche der Namen kennt man kaum und sie tauchen meines Wissens nach nur hier auf.
